The season that wasn’t supposed to happen is starting to look like a possible success for Robin Knutsson.

However, the second race weekend of the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia at Gelleråsen Arena did not begin entirely according to plan for Robin and WestCoast Racing:

“It started with a tough opening during practice where we didn’t really have the pace, but we managed to turn that around completely.”

Robin improved in qualifying and secured third on the grid for both races.

In Race 1, he made a perfect start and immediately took the lead into the first corner. In an intense race, he only managed to create some breathing room when the drivers behind him battled each other and lost time. The winning margin at the finish line was just under four tenths of a second — but a win is a win, and this was Robin’s first victory in a Porsche and the first for WestCoast Racing in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia since 2019 at Drivecenter Arena.

In the longer Race 2, Robin also had a strong start, although he retained third place on the opening lap. On lap three he claimed second position, and a few laps later he took over the lead — a lead he successfully maintained all the way to the finish.

“A completely fantastic weekend,” Robin cheers, reflecting on his somewhat unexpected double victory at Gelleråsen:
“A fantastic effort by the whole team. Recently we’ve shown that we can bounce back when things are tough and make the best of the situation. From talking about ‘damage control’ after practice, we ended up with maximum points and the championship lead! We’ve shown that we are fighting for the title, and I honestly couldn’t have dreamed of a better start to the season!”

Team manager Dick Jönsson Wigroth is also pleased to see success with Robin, who is now in his third year with the team:

“It’s always great to win! It also shows that persistence pays off. There’s a lot of hard work behind this, and we have a strong team. This is the season that wasn’t supposed to happen. In that sense, it makes it even more special — and it’s great for Robin, who has worked so hard and is now seeing the reward for that effort.”

The next race for the Scandinavian Porsche series takes place at Jyllandsringen on June 29–30. Robin will already be racing next weekend at Zandvoort in the Benelux series.
